Residential Garden Design
Residential gardens are personal spaces that nourish us physically and emotionally. They are places for us to enjoy with family and friends and an expression of the people that live in them and the specific environment and context in which they are located.
Whether small or expansive, our gardens evolve over time, which connects us with nature and brings us daily inspiration. They become seamless extensions of our homes for relaxing, entertaining, playing and growing our own food. A well-designed garden should feel like your personal sanctuary.
Collaborating closely with you, we seek to be a conduit for understanding your preferences, needs and aspirations. It’s your home, so it’s about you. Botanic offers a co-design process where you are part of a live design sketching session. The exciting part is seeing an initial concept emerge together, which will inform the landscape brief and concept.
Our recent work

A terraced garden and lawn creates comfortable outdoor living spaces in this Christchurch hillside garden.

An outdoor dining area is immersed in a garden of grasses and herbaceous perennials which celebrates the seasons and connects the garden to the rural grazed paddocks over the fence.

Naturalistic planting below and climbing plants on the pergola above surround an outdoor living area in a Lyttelton courtyard garden.

Flowing curves structure this terraced garden filled with a dry tolerant planting design.

A sloping hillside garden is accessed through outdoor living spaces on multiple levels with connecting steps.

A boardwalk connection to the front door floats over a emerging native beech forest planting.

A contemporary house floats above a naturalistic meadow.

Clipped hedging and long vistas create a formal frame for the garden which is contrasted by a more wild planting within.

Lush textured planting lines combines with formal hedges and a paved lawn border.
Some of the things we can help you with
When considering the design of a residential landscape, these are some steps we can take together with you:
Walking around your site together and chatting about your aspirations and lifestyle.
Developing an understanding of your initial garden ideas and aspirations through a collaborative process.
Analysing the site context and conditions including ecology, sun aspect, exposure to wind, any existing feature and edges.
Developing a unique style for your garden that reflects your lifestyle and personality.
Integrating the garden design with the house to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
Selecting appropriate material, colour and plant palettes to match your garden’s style.
Considering your desired level of maintenance.
